HC turns to Unions & the White House
The House Speaker tried this week to iron out the differences between the House and Senate HC bills via meetings with POTUS, and a conf. call with 175 Democratic members of the House, all to no avail. Members on the conf. call expressed unhappiness with the Senate’s funding provision that would tax high-end insurance policies by 40%. This language, included in the Senate version attacks many labor union insurance policies and thus ground the negotiations to a halt. The idea that the bill could be passed in the House this upcoming week look bleak.
The POTUS is meeting on Monday, Jan. 11 with union heads from the AFL-CIO, SEIU, Am. Fed. of State, County & Municipal employees (i.e. police and firemen), Communications Workers, Teamsters and Teachers to see if they can come to some agreement that doesn’t attack these insurance plans that have been in place for many years.
The next play for the bill is in the House with critical issues under consideration. Let your voice be heard on GradeGov.com. We learned during the Senate Christmas debate that Gradegov was the only means by which the Senators heard from their constituents since phones and fax lines were jammed. Your voice matters now more than ever.
Keep the faith and stay tuned,
