History lesson on the upcoming Health Care summit
Many eyes will be focused this Thursday on the all day WH hosted Health Care summit with Congressional Leaders, both Dems and GOP. These “summits” are a bit of a roll of the dice since they can have huge political results, both good and bad. For example, Pres. Reagan had two, one on Social Security in ‘82 and one of the Budget. Both were a success. Bush ‘41 and Clinton each had one on the Budget, both were also a success. The key to all of these successes is that they all had 1 common thread……….both sides agreed there was a need for action and if action did not occur, failure would be blamed on both parties for in-action. Also, the party that hosts the summit gets the credit or the blame. This summit is different because there is 1 party that doesn’t agree that action is needed…. at least not the level of action that the other party is advocating. The complete take over of Health care is going too far for many in the GOP party. So, by the weekend, you may have a bruised Congressional Democratic party & WH with more resolve than ever to pass a comprehensive HC bil. Look out for the use of reconciliation to pass their massive overhaul of HC in the Senate. Watch the video on reconciliation in the Senate w/all actual Senate footage.
